Steamer Columbia


On the reverse is written "Peoria Conclave 1912...Aurora Comandry (Commandery), No. 22". Barely visible rising in the smoke on the left of photo is written "Knights Templar Conclave, Peoria, Ill, Sept. 16-18, 1912."

The Columbia was rebuilt in 1917 and sank on July 5, 1918, in the Illinois River at Creve Coeur, taking the lives of at least 87 people.

Photo taken by Peoria Photo Co. which was in business from about 1907 thru about 1914, at 610 South Adams.
